About the Wellness Hub Psychology Clinic
The Wellness Hub Psychology Clinic is an affordable counselling service provided by the Mental Health Foundation Australia (MHFA). Since June 2022, the MHFA Wellness Hub has delivered integrated clinical and wellbeing services through a hybrid service model (approximately 70% telehealth and 30% face-to-face). Over the past 12 months, the Hub has delivered more than 2,000 counselling and psychological support sessions, supported by a team of 26 provisional psychologists and counselling clinicians from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds. The MHFA is committed to fostering the next generation of ethical and competent mental health professionals through structured, supervised, and community-focused clinical placements. Position Overview
The MHFA Wellness Hub Psychology Clinic is currently seeking Master of Counselling and Master of Psychology students to undertake a clinical placement at our Broadford location. This placement provides hands-on clinical experience delivering evidence-based psychological counselling sessions to clients aged 5 to 85 years. The role emphasises community wellbeing, cultural responsiveness, ethical practice, and client-centred care. The Provisional Counsellor / Provisional Psychologist will work under the supervision of experienced clinicians and contribute to delivering high-quality psychological services in accordance with MHFA Clinical Governance standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide counselling and psychological support services under approved supervision.
- Conduct intake interviews, biopsychosocial assessments, and risk assessments.
- Develop and implement support plans using evidence-based interventions (e.g., CBT, ACT, mindfulness-based approaches).
- Deliver therapeutic counselling to children, adolescents, adults, and families.
- Maintain accurate, confidential, and timely clinical documentation in accordance with MHFA Governance standards.
- Participate in case consultations, multidisciplinary meetings, and reflective practice discussions.
- Contribute to community-focused wellbeing initiatives and outreach activities where appropriate.
- Adhere to ethical guidelines, professional standards, and MHFA policies at all times.
Skills and Selection Criteria
Essential:
- Current enrolment in a Master of Counselling or Master of Psychology program.
- Demonstrated understanding of evidence-based therapeutic modalities.
- Strong interest and capability in working with school-aged children and clients across the lifespan (5–85 years).
- High level of professionalism, reliability, and ethical awareness.
- Strong written communication and administrative skills.
- Basic IT proficiency and ability to use telehealth platforms.
- Understanding of the professional standards and placement requirements aligned with:
- Australian Counselling Association (ACA)
- Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA)
- AHPRA (where applicable)
Desirable:
- Prior experience in mental health, disability, youth work, or community services.
- Experience working within culturally diverse communities.
- Demonstrated commitment to working within a non-profit environment.
Supervision Requirements
- Students must engage in external supervision with a registered or board-approved supervisor, as required by their university and/or AHPRA.
- MHFA will provide internal clinical support, operational guidance, and access to the Clinical Placement Manual and Student Placement Handbook.
- Students are responsible for ensuring their supervision arrangements meet their academic and registration requirements.

- Signed University Placement Agreement (with specified end date).
- University Placement Handbook (for supervisor reference).
- Professional Indemnity Insurance (covering full placement period).
- Valid Working with Children Check (Employee or Volunteer).
- National Police Check (issued within the last 3 months).
- Proof of Identity (Driver’s Licence or Passport).
- Valid Visa (if applicable).
- AHPRA provisional registration or evidence of eligibility (if applicable).
- Supervisor details and contact information.
- Signed MHFA Clinical Placement documentation.
- Professional photograph and 70–100-word biography for the Wellness Hub website.
