About the Mitchell Shire Youth Council

The Mitchell Youth Council is a group of young people aged 12–24 who represent the voices of young people across the community. The group meets regularly to discuss local issues, share ideas, and work with Council to improve opportunities, programs, and services for young people.

Youth Councillors take on leadership roles, contribute to decision-making, and advocate for changes that support the wellbeing of young people. They are involved in planning events, providing feedback on local projects, and working alongside community organisations to create positive outcomes.

The Youth Council Mental Health Initiative is one of the key projects identified and led by the Youth Council. Through their work, young people highlighted the need for more accessible and local mental health support. Their advocacy has helped bring services like the Wellness Hub and Early Intervention Program to Broadford, making it easier for young people to access support close to home.
