The MHFA’s Integrated Wellness Hub is a comprehensive, fully integrated, multidisciplinary health service for youth, adults, carers, and families. The aim of the Wellness Hub is to provide support and relief to individuals struggling with their mental health, as well as their families and loved ones. Our Vision is to be the leading provider of early intervention services, support, and education to promote mental health and wellness for all, in line with Victoria’s Royal Commission into Mental Health recommendations.
Officially launched on the 18th of March 2022, the Hub is located at G1, 10 Yarra St, South Yarra VIC 3141. The property was purchased through two generous bequests allowing the Mental Health Foundation Australia to dream of bigger, better, and more imaginative service provisions to the Australian public.
A large reason for the establishment of the Wellness Hub is to cater to the increasing “missing middle” of clients. These are the large and growing group of people who have chronic needs that are too complex and severe to be supported through primary care alone, but not severe enough to meet the strict criteria for entry into hospitals and other secondary healthcare facilities.
The Hub provides psychological services including mental health counselling, professional training opportunities, support groups, mental health telephone helpline, and referral services to community service providers such as housing, employment, legal services etc.
As part of its mission to provide affordable and easily accessible counselling services, the MHFA works in collaboration with various universities across Victoria and other states including Monash, Swinburne, La Trobe, RMIT, Griffith, Victoria University, and University of Melbourne, to offer final year Master of Psychology or Counselling students the opportunity to complete their clinical placements at the Wellness Hub. While counselling clients, these students are supervised by AHPRA board-approved psychologists, to ensure client and clinician safety throughout their placement journey with MHFA.
The Hub was primarily established to provide affordable and easily accessible psychological services to the community. The Hub currently offers both in-clinic and telehealth counselling at just $20 per 50-minute session with provisional psychologists/counsellors. For individuals requiring more advanced long-term therapy, the MHFA has partnered with a private psychology practice to internally refer clients for access to counselling with experienced psychologists/counsellors.
Clinicians at the Hub work from an evidence-based practice approach, integrating the best scientific evidence, clinical experience and knowledge with client needs to provide tailored treatment. The Hub’s clinicians also work within their competence, upholding ethical considerations prescribed by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) to provide best practices.
Additionally, the Hub is committed to reducing stigma and discrimination around mental health and providing culturally appropriate and inclusive services. Clinicians are trained to work with clients from a variety of backgrounds and to provide non-judgmental and empathetic care, ensuring that the Hub’s services are accessible for all.
The Hub also collaborates with other service providers in the community, such as housing, employment, and legal services, to provide clients with a comprehensive range of services to access the resources they need.
The MHFA envisions a future where everyone has access to affordable and quality mental health care through the Wellness Hub. The MHFA is committed to working towards this goal and believes that the Hub can play a vital role in improving the mental health of all in the Australian community.
In summary, the MHFA Wellness Hub is a valuable resource for those seeking affordable and quality mental health care. The Hub's commitment to providing culturally safe and inclusive services, as well as its collaboration with other service providers, makes it a unique and valuable resource in the community.
